The Soup Sisters and Misters prepare and deliver homemade soup, cornbread, cookies, and love to approximately 60 parishioners, clergy, and friends of Heavenly Rest the second Monday of the month September through May.
Leslie Boykin and others began this ministry in January 2004. Since then the group has continued to deliver soup, cornbread and cookies without interruption, even during COVID. Currently there are approximately 25 Sisters and Misters. Each month two or three members are responsible for planning and shopping for that month’s soup. Homemade cookies are baked by various members, and cornbread muffins are bought when available or baked by members. A list of the recipients is kept, and they are prayed for before we deliver their soup.
The Sisters and Misters gather at Gerhart Hall at 9:30 on the second Monday each month, September-May. The soup is cooked, the cornbread and cookies are bagged, and the sacks are filled and then delivered. Everyone is welcome for any amount of time that works with their schedule. The more the merrier when we gather, and there is no pressure to be present. This is a fun loving social group, and their ministry is truly special.
