We are excited to announce the beginning of the establishment of the Heavenly Rest Choristers! We welcome Boys, 4th Grade through voice change, and Girls, 4th Grade through 12th Grade, who are able to carry a tune and match pitch. Students in the 3rd grade can be considered based on their musical abilities and maturity. The Choristers rehearse September through May, Wednesdays, 5:15 – 6:00 p.m. and have begun singing for services about two times a month.
Music is derived from a 500-year repertory, from Gregorian Chant and motets sung in Latin to Bach to 19th Century cathedral anthems to the music of living composers, all based on scriptural, liturgical, Psalm and Mass texts. The Choristers are taught how to read music, sight-sing, produce a glorious singing voice, pronounce Latin texts, relate music texts and lyrics to scripture, better understand the lectionary and liturgical year, and more!
Contact the Choirmaster, Thomas Pavlechko, at tpavlechko@heavenlyrestabilene.org if you have a son or daughter who may have the abilities and may be interested in singing with us. The Assistant Director is school music teacher, Shelly Reed.
Reflect on the Words of
The Chorister’s Prayer
Bless, O Lord, us thy servants
Who minister in thy temple;
Grant that what we sing with our lips
We may believe in our hearts,
And what we believe in our hearts,
We may show forth in our lives;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
